Team, the year isn't over yet, but 2025 is already close to hitting a shameful milestone.

You see, for the past 14 years, the Brennan Center has been tracking changes to state voting laws.

In 2021, more states passed legislation restricting access to the ballot than in any other year of the Brennan Center’s tallying.

And 2025 has almost matched that record-breaking year.

As of early October, 16 states had put 29 new restrictive voting laws on the books this year, just short of the 17 states that had passed 32 similar laws in 2021.

After the 2020 elections, conservative lawmakers were fanning the flames of election-denial conspiracy theories. Now, they’re part of a sweeping effort to install autocracy and end democracy as we know it.

Instead of making it harder to vote and harder to have your voice heard, our elected leaders should be making sure everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in our democracy.
