The Holidays Are Almost Here!

Enjoy the crisp air, cozy up to the campfire and let Texas State Parks help you celebrate the holidays. Parks are loaded with events to enjoy from Thanksgiving weekend all the way through Christmas!

Be sure to visit the Holidays in the Parks page and Calendar of Events for all the great event options and winter wonder your parks have to offer.

Parks fill up fast during the holidays. Make your reservations in advance for day passes and overnight sites.


Austin and San Antonio Area Events

LBJ SP

 Chisholm Trail Turkey Trot at Lockhart State Park on Nov. 22. Ready, Set…. Gobble! Join us for a 1-mile or 5K run/walk to celebrate fall in the park!

●  8th Annual Turkey Trot 5K/1-Mile Fun Run at South Llano River State Park on Nov. 27. Come burn off those Thanksgiving calories!

●  56th Annual Tree Lighting at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site on Dec. 21. Enjoy this special tradition started 56 years ago by President and Mrs. Johnson.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area Events

Camper With Lights

●  Walk Off the Stuffing at Ray Roberts Lake - Johnson Branch Unit on Nov. 28. Join our annual hike to walk off all that Thanksgiving stuffing.

●  Christmas in the Park 2025 at Lake Whitney State Park on Dec. 20. It's the most wonderful time of the year! Decorate your campsite for this weekend and you will save 25%. We welcome everyone to join us between 6-8 p.m. to experience Christmas in the park and vote for your favorite campsite!

●  Cowboy Christmas at Cleburne State Park on Dec. 20. Join our rangers for a Christmas on the trail! We will be singing cowboy Christmas songs and reading cowboy Christmas poetry. Afterward, drive through our campgrounds to see sites lit up in celebration of Christmas.

Houston and Gulf Coast Area Events

Galveston Island State Park

●  Guided Turkey Hike at Galveston Island on Nov. 27. There has never been a wild turkey recorded in the park, but that won’t stop us from looking for one! 

●  Christmas Party at Ravens Lodge at Huntsville State Park on Dec. 6. Ravens Lodge was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps to be a place of public gathering and celebration in our state parks. We will be decorating the lodge and serving snacks, beverages and s’mores on the patio.

●  Christmas in the Park at Goose Island on Dec. 13. See the park in lights, enjoy holiday activities and camp for free when you decorate your campsite!

West Texas & Panhandle Area Events

Fort Leaton State Historic Site

●  Turkey Hunt and Craft at Palo Duro Canyon State Park on Nov. 22. Join us for a fun and interactive program where participants can search for hidden turkey “tracks” and clues and then create a turkey-themed craft to take home. Perfect for families and kids looking to explore and get creative!

●  Posada at Fort Leaton State Historic Site on Dec. 13. Experience the holiday traditions of the borderlands at our annual Posada at Fort Leaton! "Posada" means "inn" or "shelter" in Spanish. This traditional Mexican Christmas tradition tells the story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem through skits and songs!

●  Holly Days in the Park at San Angelo State Park on Dec. 13. Join us for a drive-through tour of lights in the Red Arroyo campground and pictures with some special guests at the Chaparral Pavillion.

Daingerfield State Park

●  Gobble Wobble! at Purtis Creek State Park on Nov. 28. Join a ranger to walk off that Thanksgiving dinner!

●  Christmas in the Park at Atlanta State Park on Dec. 12. Experience a Christmas Wonderland and meet Santa inside the Pineywoods of Atlanta State Park!

●  Christmas in the Park at Daingerfield State Park Dec. 17-20. Start a new tradition with us by driving through the park, lit up like Santa Land, from Wednesday through Saturday! You'll get to meet Santa himself on Friday and Saturday!
