Pro-Equality Candidates Win, Anti-Trans Campaigns Lose Again, in Election 2025

Voters sent a clear message in the 2025 elections: equality wins. Across the country, pro-LGBTQ candidates secured historic victories while campaigns relying on anti-transgender rhetoric suffered major losses.

Key wins include Abigail Spanberger (Virginia) and Mikie Sherrill (New Jersey), who both won governorships against opponents who were running heavily on anti-trans platforms. In New York City, Zohran Mamdani made history as the first Muslim mayor-elect, winning on a platform that explicitly prioritizes LGBTQ rights.

"Americans are rejecting divisive politics that target LGBTQ people," said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. The results confirm that attacking trans rights is a losing political strategy.
