Herbert,
The government shutdown is finally over — and while I’m relieved for our civil servants, for families who rely on food assistance, and for taxpayers who need vital public services — our fight to lower costs is far from finished.
I voted against the funding deal because it was a false choice: it opens the government, but does nothing to stop a massive new healthcare tax hitting working families. It does nothing to prevent President Trump from unilaterally cutting the very funding this bill claims to provide — something he’s already done before.
But here’s what it does:
It allows a small group of self-dealing Senators to hand themselves $1 million checks of taxpayer money because their phones were legally subpoenaed. It writes corruption into law. And it’s outrageous.

I’m signing onto legislation to undo this brazen misuse of public funds and to extend critical healthcare subsidies. You have my word: I will keep fighting every single day to lower costs for you and for all Marylanders.
But to keep up this fight — and to rebuild the momentum we need — I’m asking for your support today.
Will you contribute to help power this work?
