Dear Friend,

After 43 days, the Republican shutdown may be over, but this fight is far from finished. Republicans refused to come to the table to lower healthcare costs for American families, and that choice will have real consequences across the country. But rest assured, I will keep fighting to bring your costs down and protect the care you rely on

While Republicans took a vacation, I stayed in Washington fighting to reopen the government and protect affordable healthcare for working people.

In my congressional district alone, more than 24,000 people are at risk of seeing their premiums skyrocket if we don’t extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Across New Jersey, healthcare premiums will rise by an average of 175 percent. That’s unacceptable to every hardworking American trying to make ends meet.

Update on SNAP Benefits

Congressman Norcross stood with his Democratic colleagues in Washington to demand action on rising healthcare costs.

I voted against the Senate’s proposed government funding bill because it raises healthcare costs for millions of Americans by failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. These credits expire on December 31, and if Congress does nothing, premiums will more than double for an estimated 22 million people nationwide.

The fight for affordable healthcare isn’t over. I’ll keep fighting until every American can afford the healthcare they deserve.

Update on SNAP Benefits

Congressman Norcross joined fellow New Jersey Democrats for a telephone townhall to answer questions about SNAP benefits and the Trump Administration’s reckless actions.

Throughout the shutdown, Donald Trump used SNAP benefits as a political weapon and families paid the price. His administration froze full SNAP payments and refused to release funds that were already available, which left many seniors and children across the country hungry. Instead of working with Democrats to lower healthcare costs and reopen the government, Trump and House Republicans chose to drive up grocery bills and leave parents worrying about their next meal.

After a federal court stepped in, New Jersey was able to issue full November SNAP benefits. The New Jersey Department of Human Services confirmed on November 7 that Families First EBT cards are active again. This delay created an unnecessary hardship for working families who were simply trying to put food on the table.

If you rely on SNAP, you can check your Families First EBT balance here or by calling (800) 997-3333. No one should have to wonder if they can feed their children because of political games in Washington. I will keep working to ensure this never happens again.

Fighting for Working Families

This fight is not over. This week I signed a discharge petition to force a vote on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits for another three years. A discharge petition is a tool that allows members of the House to bring a bill to the floor when leadership refuses to act. These tax credits help keep healthcare affordable, and if Congress fails to extend them, millions of families will see their premiums go up.

Looking ahead, my focus remains the same. Families should not have to worry about losing their healthcare or paying more because of political games in Washington. I will continue fighting for working people, lowering costs, and making sure every family has the stability and security they deserve.
