Dear Friends,

One week after our historic and inspiring Democratic victories all across the country — including Proposition 50 right here in California — Congressional Republicans proceeded with their cruel agenda and repeated attempts to strip away health care access from millions of families, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities. I proudly voted NO on their monstrous spending bill this week.

There is no end to the Republicans’ harm to the American people. Whether it’s Republicans gutting Medicaid — impacting tens of millions of Americans — or Republicans cutting half a trillion dollars from Medicare for seniors and people with disabilities, or Republicans doubling or even tripling the cost of health premiums that millions of Americans pay by refusing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, the list goes on and on. Donald Trump is the worst President for children that America has ever seen — taking food out of the mouths of babies, decimating their education and adding trillions to the national debt to give tax breaks to his MAGA billionaire donors. His disastrous policies are harming the health and wellbeing of our veterans and working families to the same extent. Republicans in Congress who are doing his bidding instead of meeting the needs of their own constituents either don’t know what they’re doing, or they don’t care.

United by our values and the leadership of Hakeem Jeffries, our House Democrats have never stopped fighting to save our health care. I was proud to sign the discharge petition introduced by Leader Jeffries this week to force a vote in the House to stop the Republican health premium hikes that millions of American families will have to pay in 2026. Republicans may not care about meeting the needs of the American people but we know they care about their own reelection. Republicans in Congress need to join Democrats and extend these lifesaving ACA credits that millions of Americans depend on NOW — or LOSE their seats at the ballot box next November!

Building on our powerful victories this past Election Day, our amazing Volunteers in Politics will continue to make phone calls and create connections with friends and neighbors to save our health care. We will let them know that although the current Republican House Majority may not care about you — our House Democrats do. Thank you, VIPs, for all that you are doing to continue to hold Congressional Republicans accountable during this Congress. With our work together from now until next November, our Democrats will take back the House of Representatives with a strong Democratic majority and ensure that Hakeem Jeffries is the next Speaker of the House!

This week, I was honored to join Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy Environmental Coalition, Congressman Jared Huffman, the top Democrat on the House Committee on Natural Resources and several other colleagues in the House to demonstrate House Democrats’ ongoing commitment to confronting the defining challenge of our generation — the climate crisis. Right now, COP30 is convening in Brazil with leaders and scientists from all over the world coming together and making commitments, taking action and sharing expertise. Sadly, the United States is not present with a full delegation at a time when our leadership matters more than ever. Thankfully, our great California Governor, Gavin Newsom, was there to represent our values and Democrats’ commitment to combatting the climate crisis. As the world’s leading economy and one of the leading emitters on the planet, the United States can and must do better on this moral and existential issue for all of humanity. Attending the funeral service of my dear friend Jane Goodall at the National Cathedral on Wednesday, I prayed that we may all be inspired to carry on her commitment to looking out for one another and to caring for God’s creation.
