For over 40 days, Democrats held government funding hostage — creating uncertainty for military families, forcing air safety officials to work without pay, and depleting WIC and SNAP for vulnerable families as “leverage.”

Iowans are fed up with D.C. dysfunction, and I was proud to support the commonsense bill to open the government following Chuck Schumer’s senseless shutdown antics.

Now, we need to advance bipartisan solutions to ensure working families have affordable and accessible health care and lower costs across the board. Good things happen when we work together, and I’ll continue reaching across the aisle to make life easier and more affordable for Iowans.

Bringing Home Nearly $7 Million for IA-02

The government funding package—signed into law this week—not only reopened the government following the Democrats’ self-inflicted shutdown but included several key investments back to Iowa.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am committed to cutting wasteful spending while ensuring every single dollar possible is brought home to Iowa to better our communities. I was proud to secure funding to improve emergency services, support rural drinking water projects, and invest in maternal health and surgical services that will strengthen care in rural Iowa.

Here’s a breakdown of the funding I secured to make Iowans’ lives better:

BUTLER COUNTY: $1,000,000 for the Aplington Protective Services Building.

BENTON COUNTY: $4,000,000 for the Belle Plaine Drinking Water Resiliency Project.

TAMA COUNTY: $265,451 for the Dysart Public Works Maintenance Facility Renovation.

POWESHIEK COUNTY: $1,000,000 for the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Labor and Delivery Unit Expansion.

WINNESHIEK COUNTY: $700,000 for the WinnMed Surgical Department Upgrade.

Team Hinson Pays Tribute to Iowa Veterans

This Veterans Day, my team and I took time to thank those who answered the call to serve our nation, protect our freedoms, and preserve our way of life.

My team started Veterans Day off by volunteering at Hy-Vee’s Veterans Breakfast in Linn County. Hy-Vee has kept this wonderful tradition going for 26 years! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort.

I also stopped by Linn County’s Freedom Foundation to visit with Iowa veterans and volunteers.

A local non-profit in Cedar Rapids, the Freedom Foundation also has a food pantry and has been going above and beyond to serve Iowa veterans, especially during a harmful Democrat-led shutdown and a surge in demand.

I am grateful to the folks working around the clock here and will continue to collaborate with them to ensure that federal, state, and local partners better support our veterans and their families.

Really appreciate Dubuque County Veterans Services for hosting a wonderful Veterans and Families Appreciation Supper. Team Hinson was grateful to join and honor Iowa’s veterans and their families who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
