A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

This week, President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans passed a continuing resolution with policies that betrayed the American people and did nothing to address the soaring health care costs facing more than 22 million Americans according to CNBC. Their Big, Ugly Law included policies that cut more than $1 trillion from our health care system, according to Johns Hopkins University, and the recent failure to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits will cause irreparable harm to our health care — for all of us. Republicans and Trump's policies are forcing Rhode Islanders to make impossible choices.

The Republican policies that shut down the government needlessly offered a series of false choices that pitted hungry families needing food against those facing skyrocketing premiums and held workers’ paychecks hostage. I opposed the deal Trump and Congressional Republicans pushed this week because it did not include policies that fixed the health care crisis. Their policies will force parents to decide between treating an illness and paying for rent, a young person between food and insurance, and a retiree between heat and medication.

WATCH HERE: Congressman Amo shares why he voted no on Trump and Republicans spending bill full of bad deal policies for Rhode Islanders.

Rhode Islanders looking for health insurance can find more information by clicking here. If you and your loved ones ability to access health care is impacted by Trump's and Republicans' policies, I want you to share your story by contacting me on my website or email me at [email protected].

Trump's and Congressional Republicans' policies are making Rhode Islanders sicker and poorer. I'm going to keep calling out the cruelty and fight to lower health costs. We cannot back down in the face of Americans being left without the care they need.

Sincerely,

Gabe Amo
Member of Congress

I toured Central Falls Children’s Foundation’s pediatric, laboratory, and affordable housing services. More than 80% of their patients are on Medicaid.

Policies in Trump and Republicans Big, Ugly Law cut roughly $1 trillion from our health care system. I am working in Congress to stop the cuts and care for our neighbors.

I was thrilled to help kick off Trinity Repertory Theater's new renovation, bringing Rhode Island's Tony Award-winning theater into its next century of artistic excellence!

Now more than ever, I will continue to support the arts to inspire and uplift our communities in Congress.

This week we wished a happy birthday to my friend and consummate public servant, Senator Jack Reed!

Thank you to Senator Reed for his tireless work to create a better future for all Rhode Islanders. We will continue to work together in Congress to deliver for Rhode Islanders.

I joined Health Center leaders, along with Congressman Magaziner, to share how federal inaction will make our health care crisis worse.

From cutting Medicaid to not extending critical tax credits, Trump's and Republicans' policies are making Rhode Islanders sicker and poorer.  We will keep pushing back.

At times like these, our community is especially grateful for the leaders and volunteers of the MAE Organization. I was honored to join them to celebrate 17 years of work.

I’ll continue to work in Congress to stop cuts to programs that support those struggling with hunger and housing insecurity.

Congratulations to the Community College of Rhode Island's new president, Dr. Rosemary Costigan. CCRI is where my mom trained as a nurse, so I’m thrilled to see the first alum and nursing leader lead this essential Ocean State institution.

I was honored to celebrate this new chapter for CCRI and to discuss how I will continue to support higher education in Congress.

Ahead of Veterans Day, I joined the Visiting Nurse Association of Care New England to honor Veterans working in health care and highlight the need to safeguard and expand care for those who have served.

I will keep working in Congress to protect and expand Veterans’ access to health care.

Highlighting the Rhode Island Impact of Health Care Inaction

WATCH HERE: Congressman Amo discusses the consequences of Republicans policy to not extend Affordable Care Act tax credits.

I joined Providence's WPRI Fox 12 to discuss my opposition to Trump's and Republicans' bad policy deal for Rhode Islanders. Their failure to come up with a policy to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits is leaving 22 million Americans, including 41,000 Rhode Islanders, to pay astronomically higher health insurance premiums next year.

Reporter Kayla Fish and I discussed how I will continue working in Congress to stop Trump's and Republicans' policies from causing Rhode Islanders to pay as much as 200% or more for their health care next year.

Honoring America's Veterans
Image

In honor of Veterans Day, I met with Rhode Islanders across the First Congressional District who served our nation in uniform. I started Veterans Day at the Pawtucket Veterans Council for a solemn commemoration.

Image

Then I joined the Infantry Lodge Association for their annual Veterans Day lunch featuring the traditional menu of chowder, hot dogs, chips, and beer — the meal Rhode Islanders returning from World War I requested.

Image

In Barrington, I had the honor of meeting three WWII Veterans, as well as Veterans who served in Korea and Vietnam, at Atria Senior living.

To end the day, I joined state and local leaders at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol for the state's annual Veterans Day observance honoring all those who have bravely served our country. We also listened to a poignant essay on the importance of voting from Mount St. Charles student and 2025 Patriot Pen winner Brooke Perron.

I will continue fighting in Congress to ensure that Rhode Island Veterans have the resources they need, including affordable health insurance, complete funding of the PACT Act, access to SNAP benefits, and a fully-staffed and funded VA.

Honoring our Veterans requires not just words but actions and I will continue to have their backs in Congress.

Countering Trump's and Conservatives' Policies in the Courts

The Trump administration's policies are being challenged and overturned in court. Americans have filed 500 lawsuits against the administration, and judges have partially or fully blocked over 139 of Trump's executive actions.

Recent Courtroom Wins:

SUPREME COURT BLOCKS ATTEMPTS TO OVERTURN LGBTQ+ MARRIAGE RIGHTS — The Supreme Court declined to revisit the groundbreaking 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which recognized Americans' right to marry, no matter who they love.

✅ COURT BLOCKS TRUMP ADMIN POLICIES ALTERING VOTER REGISTRATION — A federal judge ruled against the Trump administration's attempt to add burdensome proof-of-citizenship questions to federal voter registration forms.

✅ 100 JUDGES RULED AGAINST TRUMP ADMIN MANDATORY DETENTION — A new study shows that over 100 judges have ruled over 200 times against the Trump administration's mandatory detention immigration policies.
