Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

Dear John,

This week, I traveled to Washington to vote against the Senate's partisan spending bill. Here's what else I did to fight for you.

1. Voted No on the Senate's Shutdown "Deal"

On Monday, the Senate passed a partisan spending bill that lets health care costs skyrocket. On Wednesday, I voted no.

I’ve been clear about my demands to support a Republican government funding bill: Republicans must extend tax credits that make health care more affordable, restore Medicaid funding, and prevent Trump from making illegal funding cuts in the future. This shutdown "deal" does none of those things.

Republicans have proven time and again that they don’t care about Americans’ health care prices, and they can’t be trusted to keep their promises. I cannot support legislation that makes no progress on our goals and instead depends on the hope that Senate Republicans and Speaker Johnson will do the right thing.

2. Backed Bills to Stop ICE Abuse

Pepper-spraying babies, abducting citizens, making warrantless arrests – federal agents in Chicago are out of control. That's why I’m supporting the Stop Excessive Force Act to stop the madness.

This bill will make Chicagoans safer by forcing ICE and CBP agents to follow higher DOJ standards on the use of force. It will also restrict the use of tear gas, require the use of body cameras, and limit the use of masks.

I also support the Protect Sensitive Locations Act, which will stop ICE and CBP from entering daycares, schools, hospitals, and churches, so parents and kids don't have to fear masked, armed agents.

3. Supported Care for Friends' Food Drive

This week, I joined Alderman Timmy Knudsen and State Senator Sara Feigenholtz at a Lincoln Park food drive to support Care for Friends.

With Trump still holding SNAP hostage, it’s encouraging to see so many Chicagoans supporting their neighbors. If you have the means, consider volunteering to help your neighbors in need.
