Governor and First Lady Fran DeWine visited [ [link removed] ] the Fairfield Local School District in Highland County to take part in a ribbon cutting for the new Highland Health Partners Leesburg Family Medicine school-based health clinic.

The health clinic was built on the district’s K-12 campus with more than $3.2 million in grant funding awarded as part of Governor DeWine's Appalachian Children's Health Initiative [ [link removed] ]. Through a partnership with Highland Health Partners, the clinic will offer primary care services for students, staff, and the broader Leesburg community.

School-based healthcare has been shown to significantly reduce barriers to accessing essential health services, leading to improved physical, behavioral, and academic outcomes for students.

Governor DeWine also toured the Fairfield Local School District’s new workforce development Innovation Learning Lab, which was also supported through the $3.2 million grant.

“This new clinic and Innovation Learning Lab will help set students up for success both physically and educationally,” said Governor DeWine. “By enhancing access to health care and workforce readiness, we are setting Ohio students up to achieve their God-given potential."

Governor  DeWine praised [ [link removed] ] Major League Baseball (MLB) after Commissioner Rob Manfred announced MLB and gaming companies have agreed to significantly restrict micro-prop bets. MLB announced today that effective immediately, all MLB Authorized Gaming Operators will cap wagers on pitch-level markets at $200 and exclude those bets from parlays. This follows Governor DeWine's July request that MLB and other sports leagues take action after two Cleveland Guardians pitchers were placed on leave, allegedly for betting irregularities involving micro-prop bets

“I commend Commissioner Manfred, Major League Baseball, and its partners for taking this action to address the problem of micro-prop bets. By limiting the ability to place large wagers on micro-prop bets, Major League Baseball is taking affirmative steps to protect the integrity of the game and reduce the incentives to participate in improper betting schemes,” said Governor DeWine. “I urge other sports leagues to follow Major League Baseball’s example with similar action.”

Governor DeWine, JobsOhio, Lake to River Economic Development, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, and Vallourec, a world leader in premium tubular solutions, announced [ [link removed] ] the company has committed to investing at least $39 million to expand its operations in Youngstown. Vallourec shared that its final investment will be up to $48 million.

The investment will support Vallourec’s plan to increase capacity to thread VAM® high-torque connections at its main North American production facility in Youngstown. Once operational, the new threading line will create 40 full-time jobs, expand the local supply chain and support the regional energy industry.

“Vallourec’s decision to expand its Youngstown operations affirms that Ohio’s strengths in infrastructure, integrated supply chains, and regulatory environment make it a premier destination for companies seeking growth in the North American market,” said Governor DeWine. “The company’s newest investment demonstrates Vallourec’s ongoing confidence in the Mahoning Valley’s proven manufacturing talent.”

The Ohio Department of Development released [ [link removed] ] guidelines for a new program designed to support workforce housing near major economic development projects.

The Residential Economic Development District (REDD) Program, passed by the Ohio General Assembly in the state’s biennium budget bill and signed by Governor  DeWine earlier this year, allocates a total of $25 million in grant funding to help communities expand housing opportunities close to where jobs are growing.

“When new businesses come to Ohio, our communities need the housing and infrastructure to match that growth,” said Governor DeWine. “The REDD Program is a smart investment that keeps Ohio competitive and attractive to both our workforce and the industries that employ it.”

The program, which will give more Ohioans the chance to find affordable, high-quality homes near their places of employment, will provide approximately $10 million in grant funding in Fiscal Year 2026, followed by roughly $15 million in Fiscal Year 2027. Development will begin accepting applications for this fiscal year at 10 a.m. Dec . 16. Applications will close at 5 p.m. Jan. 16, 2026.

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Development Director Mihalik announced [ [link removed] ] $88 million in grant funding is now available to help communities clean up contaminated properties and prepare them for new development opportunities.

The funding will be awarded as part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program [ [link removed] ], which was launched by the DeWine Administration in 2021. The program helps communities across the state clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled, or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.

“No community should be held back by a property that’s unsafe or unusable,” said Governor DeWine. “Through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation program, we’re giving every county in Ohio the opportunity to tackle these brownfields head-on, restore pride in their neighborhoods, and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity.”

Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Tressel, and Ohio Department of Development Director Mihalik announced [ [link removed] ] more than two dozen communities will receive funding to complete critical infrastructure and neighborhood improvement projects aimed at improving the quality of life for Ohioans.

Nearly $13.8 million in Neighborhood Revitalization and Critical Infrastructure grants will benefit 26 communities to support projects such as upgraded water and sewer infrastructure, flood and drainage improvements, road and sidewalk reconstruction, and park enhancements.

“With this funding, we’re strengthening the foundations of our communities,” said Governor DeWine. “These projects will improve water and sewer systems, upgrade local parks and streets, and help ensure every Ohioan — and every family — can live in a safer, stronger neighborhood.”

“Investments made in our infrastructure are investments made in our people,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “By helping communities replace these aging systems and facilities, we’re improving the daily lives of our hard-working residents and supporting the long-term growth of local economies.”

“We keep seeing great companies moving into Ohio or growing in Ohio. The number of job opportunities coming our way is exciting,” said Lt. Governor Jim Tressel. “Now we need to do our part, as a State, to empower our people to take advantage of these opportunities and become a part of our workforce team. By removing barriers to transportation for workers, that’s exactly what this program will do.”
