Dear Friend,

I hope you had a good week.

Now that the government is re-opened, the fight for affordable healthcare continues. I am ready to fight for San Antonians and lower the cost of living. Texans deserve to afford groceries, housing, healthcare, and other basic expenses.

I’ll always fight for you. If I can be helpful, please call my San Antonio office at (210) 348-8216 or my office in Washington at (202) 225-3236 office.

In San Antonio

Honoring Our Veterans

This past weekend, we honored San Antonio veterans, who have sacrificed so much to protect the values we hold dear. My district office joined Project MEND’s Salute to our Veterans celebration and shared ways my office can be helpful.

Veterans and military families, if I can be helpful in assisting you with benefits or military service medals, please call my office at 210-348-8216.

I was also honored to attend the screening of the documentary American Sons—a powerful tribute to Latino soldiers and their sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

I am proud to represent Military City U.S.A. and will continue to fight in Congress to ensure veterans have access to the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve.

Bowden Academy Hispanic Heritage Night

Students are the future of our city and country. I was honored to join San Antonio’s Bowden Academy for their Hispanic Heritage Night to speak about the important contributions of Latinos in the arts and sciences and encourage students to pursue their goals.

Thank you to the parents, teachers, staff, and principals who show up day in and day out for our students.

Museo del Westside Grand Opening

Image

Last month, San Antonio ushered in a new beginning with the grand opening of El Museo del Westside. The museum will help tell the Latino story—rejecting stereotypes and defining our community by our contributions to the history, culture and prosperity of our country.

I am a proud son of the Westside, and I am glad to see our community sharing the Westside’s rich history.

The Epstein Files—What’s Next?

Image

New emails show how involved President Trump was with Epstein—including how he spent hours with one of Epstein’s victims. We are watching a cover-up in real time. Americans deserve transparency and the victims deserve justice.

ICE in Our Community

Since Trump took office, we have seen disturbing instances of masked ICE agents abuse their power and discriminate against Latinos and other members of our communities. It’s wrong.

But President Trump insists that ICE raids have not gone far enough. And Governor Abbott is supporting the President’s tactics by sending National Guard troops to Chicago to support President Trump’s ICE raids. Now the administration is expanding its cooperation with local law enforcement across the country, diminishing trust in communities.

I am calling on the administration to roll back its cruel immigration policies. Watch my full interview with Pablo Manríquez of Migrant Insider here.

In the News

"Republicans are 'weaponizing' people's hunger, Texas Congressman says"

“But Democrats like U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, say something darker is happening with the Trump administration.

“Donald Trump and the Republicans are also weaponizing SNAP benefits,” Castro said at a press conference last week in San Antonio. “They're weaponizing people's hunger.”

Castro said the White House's attempt to cut off food stamps during the ongoing shutdown is just further proof of that. He said they could use contingency money set aside by Congress to cover the expenses, but are choosing not to for political reasons.”

Congratulations, Northside ISD!
