Dear A.,
Senator Pete Ricketts
[link removed]
sent a letter today on behalf of 25 senators to Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) has "no role" in the future of Gaza.
"For decades, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has operated in Gaza, yet extensive reporting, investigations, and intelligence assessments documented systemic infiltration of the agency by Hamas and other U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organizations," the letter said.
More than a dozen UNRWA employees participated in the October 7 massacre, hundreds were members of Hamas' military wing, and around 10% of all UNRWA employees in Gaza — 1,200 out of 12,000 — had ties to terror organizations, including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
The problems with UNRWA, both in Gaza and beyond, are grave, systemic and beyond repair. Humanitarian aid to the Palestinians must be delivered through an alternative mechanism that promotes peaceful coexistence with Israel and is not indifferent to terror.
