Many Canadians are still struggling to comprehend what happened last week at Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, B.C.

Not just because of the needless destruction of roughly 400 healthy ostriches, but because of how our institutions handled it and failed in their basic duty.

For months, the owners and infectious disease experts questioned the necessity of the culling.

They pleaded for updated tests and a proper review of the evidence showing the flock had recovered, thrived, and developed natural immunity.

They urged that the case be accorded full consideration before any irreversible action was taken.

Yet when the matter reached the Supreme Court of Canada — the ultimate institution meant to protect fairness, due process, and the right to be heard — the door slammed shut.

The Court refused to hear the case at all. No review. No examination of facts. No opportunity for experts to present their findings.

The Court deferred to the bureaucrats, just like it did during the fake covid pandemic.

And then the devastation followed. Marksmen arrived. Birds that had survived illness were shot.

Thirty years of work, research, care, and commitment were wiped out in a single operation.

John, like you I’m sure and many others who followed that story, I was deeply saddened by how this ended.

This is more than a tragic story about animals and the family that care for them. It is a terrible injustice and an example of abject institutional failure.

The Edgewood ostrich cull may be over, but the outrage is not.
