The Trump Administration refused to fully fund SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.
As a result, more than 267,000 Iowans who rely on SNAP were affected right before the holidays. The Urbandale Food Pantry reported that they’ve seen 160 new families since the end of October. They usually see 2,200 families monthly, but expect that number to increase to 3,000 this month.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network served more than 160,000 people in the first 11 days of November, breaking all of its records in the organization’s 50-year history. We can’t let our community go hungry. When the government refuses to step up, the rest of us must.
IDP is hosting a Day of Action tomorrow in support of the Iowa Food Bank from 11 AM - 3 PM in Des Moines. If you can’t make it but would like to help, we ask you to make a donation or sign up to volunteer with the Iowa Food bank to make sure no Iowan goes hungry this holiday season.

IDP is working to support Democratic candidates who will prevent things like this from happening in the future. But in the meantime, we’re proud to see folks stepping up for our community.
Thank you,
Iowa Democrats
