The GOP's shutdown is over…but let's be clear: this never needed to happen.

Millions of Americans paid the price while Republicans played politics. Federal workers were furloughed, families missed paychecks, vital services stopped cold, and our economy took a massive hit.

This was a crisis by design, engineered by GOP extremists who put politics over people. And the damage is real:

• Over 1.3 million federal workers were forced out of work or made to work without pay
• Billions of dollars in economic productivity were lost, money our communities will never get back
• Families nationwide faced missed mortgage payments, delayed childcare, and canceled medical care
• Small businesses that rely on federal contracts took devastating hits

America's credibility was dragged through the mud, all for a partisan stunt. Let's be clear, Johh: Republican "leadership" is a joke — and nobody's laughing.

You need to know that I voted NO every single step of the way, because not once did the GOP put forward a plan that actually protected Americans' health care.

Every so-called "solution" they offered would have ripped away coverage, raised costs, and left Colorado families paying the price. The truth is, their deal doesn't solve anything — it just makes it harder for people to get the care they need.

We need leaders who fight for Americans, not for chaos. That's why I'm doing everything I can to fight back and to ensure we have the resources needed to take back our Democratic House majority. Undoing the GOP's damage to this country is going to take a while. The first step is to make sure it never happens again.
