Hey friends, Abdul here.
Republican Mike Rogers just launched his first digital ad in Michigan’s battleground Senate race.
There’s a lot to unpack here.
Let’s start with the creepy actor family that looks like they were forced to sit upright on a couch by Mike Rogers’ video team…
And then there’s the lovely shots of me where I look like Storm from X-Men, ushering a storm cloud into the Capitol building…
I found the ad very interesting. Because what does Mike Rogers choose to start his campaign with? A defense of his disastrous support for the extremely unpopular Big Ugly Bill that Trump signed into law.
As a reminder, this is the bill that:
They did all that to give trillions of dollars in tax breaks to billionaires.
Mike Rogers knows this was really unpopular. He wants to cover himself by running dishonest ads saying I want to “raise your taxes.” And if we don’t have a strong counter-message in this election, Mike Rogers will walk right into the U.S. Senate and vote for even more giveaways to billionaires.
John, I don’t think we can win this critical Senate seat by just banking on voters turning out for a “blue no matter who” candidate that stands for nothing.
We win this Senate seat by driving historic turnout and excitement around a very simple message that cuts through all the lies:
I’m the only Democrat in this primary driving that message home. If people like you, reading emails like this, decide to make a donation or sign up to volunteer, we can bring that message to the general election and win. If not, we lose. And there’s a chance that Republicans keep this Senate seat in a close election.
Some people will be able to give more, and I’m grateful for that. Some people can only chip in a few bucks, and I’m grateful for that, too. Some people can’t give at all, but can spend a few hours volunteering.
Each of us is going to have to do what we’re capable of to win this race. The stakes are very, very high.
If we don’t win the primary, and Democrats push out yet another candidate with a muddled message, it’s not just our campaign that’s in trouble. It’s our country. Because Mike Rogers is a lot of things… but he’s someone we’d be foolish to underestimate. His folks will run ads like this one relentlessly, lying about his record and trying to confuse voters about the Democrats.
Only the Democrat with a clear message can win.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done so far.
In solidarity,
Abdul
