John,
In the last few months, we’ve seen President Trump repeatedly fire or demote inspectors general, several of whom were investigating his cronies or were poised to conduct much-needed oversight of the pandemic response. We’ve seen loans go to companies that rent from the Trump Organization and companies owned by Jared Kushner’s family. We’ve seen government contracts being awarded to new companies with close ties to the administration. We’ve seen Jared Kushner’s shadow coronavirus task force ignore conflicts of interest and transparency laws.
It's clear that the status quo is not working. Taxpayer dollars are being squandered during a public health emergency when American lives are on the line, and Trump is making a mockery of the oversight provisions that were included in the first relief package.
President Trump’s assaults on oversight are not new, but during the pandemic, the stakes are higher than ever before. That’s why Congress must pass the CORE Act, which would provide much needed protections for inspectors general, strengthen oversight of the pandemic response and protect whistleblowers.
Sign now to call on Congress to pass the CORE Act. With additional coronavirus relief legislation expected to be under consideration soon, it’s essential that the CORE Act be included!
Oversight is not just a buzzword. It’s about taxpayer dollars going where they’re most needed. It’s about ensuring that the president’s friends and family are not prioritized for government contracts or loans. It’s about making sure that government programs are not discriminatory.
And if we want robust oversight to ensure that our government is operating fairly and equitably, then we need to protect inspectors general and whistleblowers from President Trump’s outrageous and unacceptable retaliation.
Congress must pass the CORE Act—add your name, and help build the pressure for real oversight of the pandemic response!
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
