New Banner - 2024

Dear Neighbors,

On Monday, I will resign from the Minnesota House of Representatives to prepare for my duties as the Mayor of Saint Paul.

It is difficult to put into words what an honor it has been to serve our community at the State Capitol. Representing our neighborhoods, our families, and our shared hopes for a better Minnesota has truly been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Together, we have made real progress rooted in compassion, fairness, and the belief that government can be a force for good when we listen to one another and act with purpose.

Over the past several years, we have achieved transformational change. Together, we ensured that every child in Minnesota receives breakfast and lunch at school, no matter their family’s income. We secured paid family and medical leave so Minnesotans can care for their loved ones without risking their livelihood, and we expanded paid sick time so workers can prioritize their health and that of their families. We passed historic investments in housing, education, and climate action, and we stood up for equity and opportunity for all Minnesotans.

These accomplishments belong to the parents who spoke up for their children, to the advocates who never gave up, and to the neighbors who shared stories and inspired change. You showed up, you raised your voices, and you reminded us what public service is truly about: caring for one another.

I also want to express my forever gratitude to the late Speaker Melissa Hortman, and my colleagues in the DFL caucus for their leadership, partnership, and friendship. Serving alongside them to deliver on our shared vision for a stronger, more inclusive Minnesota has been a highlight of my life. The policies we enacted together will make life better for working families for generations to come.

As I prepare to step into this next chapter as Mayor of Saint Paul, I carry with me everything I have learned from you. I am excited to continue serving you in a new capacity, building on our progress and working together to ensure that Saint Paul remains a city where everyone can thrive.

Until my resignation becomes official, my legislative office will remain open and available to assist you. My staff and I will continue to provide assistance with constituent services, connecting residents to available resources, and addressing questions about state programs. I encourage you to continue to reach out now and in the future.

When my grandparents and parents fled Laos after its fall, they couldn’t have imagined where their journey would bring me. In their search for freedom and a better life, they taught me that we must never let despair triumph over hope. Their sacrifice and persistence became my guide for serving those who have entrusted their hopes, dreams, and struggles to me. It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve you. Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your belief in the work we’ve done together. I am so proud to call Saint Paul home, and I look forward to continuing to serve this city in the years ahead.
