Like so many Virginians, I want people to stop missing paychecks and get back to work. But I voted NO last night on the Republican proposal to reopen the government because it doesn’t do nearly enough to address the real issues families are facing, the rising cost of health care, and the continued attacks on federal workers and contractors.
A promise not to fire federal workers in the future is no comfort to the Virginians who’ve already lost their jobs or missed paychecks. And vague assurances about health care affordability don’t mean much when 20 million Americans are still at risk of higher costs.
Republicans in Congress must do more than make symbolic gestures. They need to extend the ACA subsidies that make health care affordable for millions of families and stop playing politics with people’s livelihoods.
This isn’t about party lines, it’s about people. Every family deserves the peace of mind that comes with job security and access to affordable health care. That’s what I’ll keep fighting for in Congress, no matter how tough the road ahead.
Thank you for standing with me and for believing in the work we’re doing together.
With gratitude,
