john,

ASU dining hall and food service workers have now held two major unfair labor practice (ULP) actions in response to alleged surveillance and interrogation by Aramark management. The first protest took place on October 22nd, and the latest ULP strike gathered workers and other supporters again on November 13th. These workers are part of a bargaining unit of about 600 employees who serve thousands of students every single day across ASU. Many say the alleged surveillance has created a climate of fear and retaliation for speaking up about working conditions.

At both actions, workers were joined by community allies, clergy, students and local elected officials. Both picket lines featured a strong presence of dozens of individuals, gathered at the west side of the Memorial Union on ASU’s Tempe campus and brought strong attention to the concerns raised in the NLRB filings.

Both protest have included plenty of signs, union chanting, and strong speeches from workers and supportive community leaders. This was all organized and put together by UNITE HERE local 11, which is the labor union representing more than 32,000 hospitality workers throughout Southern California and Arizona’s hotels, restaurants, universities, sports arenas, convention centers and airports. Workers and allies are calling on Aramark to end the alleged surveillance and interrogations, and to address workplace concerns without intimidation.

Protect Arizona Workers from Extreme Heat - Deadline Nov. 15th

Extreme heat is one of the deadliest hazards for workers in Arizona, yet there are still no legal protections guaranteeing water, shade, and rest on the job. That’s why the Arizona Heat Standards Coalition launched this petition: demanding heat standard protections for every worker

Governor Hobbs’ Workplace Heat Safety Task Force is currently debating these protections — and your signature can make a difference. Every name shows decision-makers that we won’t wait for another tragedy before acting.

Through an executive order, Governor Hobbs can ensure no worker dies from extreme heat on the job. Please sign and share with friends, family, and colleagues — the more voices, the harder our elected officials must listen.
