Hi John, it’s Dave.
Earlier this week, Congress voted to reopen the government after the longest shutdown in American history.
I would’ve voted no on this Republican deal. Let me tell you why:
This Republican shutdown deal does absolutely nothing to address the skyrocketing costs of health insurance across the country. Because of it, millions of Americans, including people here in Colorado’s Eighth Congressional District, will see their healthcare premiums double or even triple. That means people will lose their health insurance because they can’t afford to keep it. It’s absolutely shameful.
If last Tuesday’s elections taught us anything, it’s that Americans want a Democratic Party that will actually fight for them. A party that will address the affordability crisis and the economic anxiety so many people are feeling. Not a party that will cave to Republican demands and abandon working families.
I get it. As your state treasurer, I’ve protected Colorado’s employee pension program and established a private-sector retirement savings program—Colorado SecureSavings—ensuring that those who have worked hard their entire lives can retire with dignity and security.
Colorado’s Eighth District deserves a representative who will put its residents’ needs and interests first. Someone with a record of fighting for working families and winning. That’s why I’m running for Congress. >>
