Winter Hazard Awareness Week
Nov. 17-21, 2025 is Winter Hazard Awareness Week in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Each year, the National Weather Service, the Minnesota Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and Wisconsin Emergency Management promote winter safety and preparedness for all citizens wherever they are: in their homes, on the road, at work and at play. Unfortunately, many people each year suffer needlessly because they are unaware of the potential dangers of the winter season.

Mayor for a Day
The League of Minnesota Cities is hosting its annual "Mayor for a Day" Essay Contest, inviting 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from across the state to share their ideas for improving their communities. Students are encouraged to think creatively and write about what they would do if they were mayor for a day. The contest is a fun way to spark interest in local government and civic engagement at a young age. Selected winners will have their essays published and may receive special recognition from the League. It's a great opportunity for students to make their voices heard!
