Dear John,

We’ve scored massive wins in the fight to protect public lands -- But the Trump Administration isn’t giving up on gutting protections for them. We still need your help to protect wild places: Donate $10 to Friends of the Earth today!

Trump wants to expose America’s most iconic national landmark -- the Grand Canyon -- to a massive increase in uranium mining. We have to act fast to protect our public lands.

Poisoned water. Increased risk of cancer and other public health issues for local Indigenous communities. Open pits scarring the southwestern desert. These are just a few of the impacts of this plan.

Together, we pressured the House of Representatives to pass a bill that protects the Grand Canyon from uranium mining forever. Now, we need to push the Senate to act -- but we can’t do this without you, John!

Help stop the Trump Administration from permanently scarring the Grand Canyon and other public lands: Donate $10 to Friends of the Earth today!

With your support, we’ve been fighting Trump’s years-long efforts to turn our public lands over to the fossil fuel industry. We’re advocating for legislation to protect public lands and wildlife from fossil fuel interests, exposing Interior Secretary Bernhardt and BLM Director Pendley’s corruption, and coordinating public comments to oppose new leasing on public lands.

Here’s why this work matters now:

  • To stand a chance of surviving climate change, we need to keep 80 percent of known fossil fuel reserves in the ground. However, Trump’s pushing for more extraction and burning of fossil fuels on our public lands, which already accounts for nearly a quarter of U.S. climate emissions.
  • In addition, our landscapes are critical to the species that call them home, and to the people who have lived in or near them for generations. Our public lands are held in trust for the public good, to preserve our natural heritage for future generations. But Trump and his administration insist on endangering our wild places so he can throw his Big Oil and Gas buddies a payday.

In times like this, it can be hard to find hope. That’s understandable. We’re up against powerful foes and entrenched interests, and the stakes are high.

But that’s exactly why we can’t give up.

And thanks to members like you, our tenacious campaigning is racking up wins in the courts of law and public opinion:

  • Friends of the Earth consistently gathers the most public comments opposing oil and gas lease sales -- your comments make a difference!
  • And we’ve been shifting public opinion through our research, which has been featured in top media outlets like The New York Times, exposing how Interior Secretary Bernhardt has violated ethics rules by working with his former fossil fuel industry clients. We’re pushing Congress to investigate this corruption, and we’ve won using that tactic before: Scott Pruitt and Ryan Zinke were forced to resign after corruption scandals.

In order to keep going in these challenging times, we need to take stock and celebrate our wins. So we want to recognize all of your support and hard work.

And we want to keep the momentum going. Public pressure has stopped the Trump Administration from gutting protections for our public lands before. With your help, we can do it again.

With your support, we can win the fight to protect our public lands. Donate $10 to Friends of the Earth today!

Fighting to protect our precious wild places is a fight we can win. But only if we keep at it.

And we don’t have much time: According to a report from the World Meteorological Organization, the climate crisis is worsening. Experts say that we have less than 10 years to revamp our economy and save the planet from irreversible climate catastrophe.

That’s why we’re pushing to rapidly phase out all extraction and burning of fossil fuels, starting with a ban on new fossil fuel leasing in federal lands and waters, and a moratorium on federal permits for fossil fuel projects that have the greatest impact on frontline communities and sensitive ecosystems.

We’re fighting across the country, including:

  • In New Mexico’s Chaco Culture National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with irreplaceable archaeological treasures. Unfortunately, the Bureau of Land Management’s just-released management plan for the area prioritizes oil and gas development over the environment or the people who live nearby.
  • In Utah, the Trump Administration is allowing mining, drilling, and grazing on land stripped from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante monuments. Soon, Indigenous communities who live near Bears Ears could be exposed to the health dangers associated with uranium mining -- from poisoned drinking water to increased risk of cancer -- all in the name of corporate profits.

Friends of the Earth is using all the tools in our toolbox to block these dirty energy projects, including strategic direct action. We’re expanding our fight as watchdogs for people and the planet, because we have no other choice.

And we’re able to keep fighting -- and winning -- because we have generous people like you supporting us each step of the way.

With your support, we can win the fight to protect our public lands. Donate $10 to Friends of the Earth today!
