Dear john,

On Wednesday night, the House held a late night vote on a funding bill, and the federal government is open once again following the longest shutdown in history. My Democratic colleagues and I are united in our pursuit of extended health care savings for the American people. We will continue to demand action on this issue from Republican leadership, because every American deserves access to the care they need.

The House will be in session all next week, and I look forward to getting back to the work we have been called to do—work that should have been taking place throughout the 43-day shutdown. As the House gets back to work, I encourage you to keep lifting up your voice and sharing your feedback with my office. Your perspective matters a great deal to me, and I value the stories from constituents just like you that I can share with my colleagues in Congress.

Following this week's vote in DC, I traveled right back to Georgia to celebrate a bit of good news with fellow elected officials and advocates for workforce development. The Community Assistance Center in Sandy Springs cut the ribbon on a new Empowerment Center which will offer adult education, career services, and workforce development programs for residents in Sandy Springs and the north Atlanta perimeter community. Atlanta ranks dead last out of the 50 largest metropolitan areas in economic mobility. In a state that touts its number one status for doing business, we should strive to move Atlanta to the top of the economic mobility list, too. Congratulations to CAC on this wonderful new community asset—in Congress, I will continue to be a champion for workforce development programs and bring home needed federal investments to support your work!
