Dear John,
We are excited to invite you to an important discussion, Holding Court: The Judicial Backstop During the Government Shutdown, taking place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 3:30 PM ET. Join us for a conversation with Amelia O'Rourke-Owens, Executive Director of Resilience Solutions and former CFPB Union steward. AFJ President Rachel Rossi will be moderating the discussion.
On November 12, Congress passed a bill, and President Trump signed it to reopen the government after 43 days of a government shutdown. This was the longest federal government shutdown in the history of the United States.
Our panelists will examine the unprecedented role the federal courts played during the most recent government shutdown. Far from being passive observers, the judiciary was thrust onto the front lines and forced to adjudicate high-stakes emergency cases that carried life-altering consequences for millions. During this administration, we continue to see example after example of executive overreach, and the federal courts remain the only backstop, as the legislative branch has seemingly abandoned their authority as a co-equal branch of government.
Don't miss out on this important discussion! You can sign up to join the conversation here! See you there, Alliance for Justice |
