The Ol’ Abortion Legislation Sneakaroo
Fun fact: THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS ARE PRO-CHOICE! Which is exactly why conservative senators tried to sneak a “backdoor national abortion ban” into the terrible, no good, very bad government spending package hoping no one noticed. Does the Hyde Amendment already ban federal funding from going towards elective abortions? Yep! But in their quest to not-actually-leave-it-to-the-states, they target the states that actually care for their citizens by subsidizing plans that cover abortion to remove the option entirely. 

The good news? They took the backdoor ban out of the current budget bullshit. The bad news (‘cause there’s always gotta be bad news)? They’ve promised to resurrect this rancid old chestnut next year and tie it to the fight to extend the ACA healthcare subsidy negotiations. FUCK YOU! AND ALSO WE’LL BE READY.

Won’t Somebody Think Of The MEN?!
BREAKING NEWS: the anti-abortion stink tank The Heritage Foundation wants you to know that The MenTM are being POISONED by—wait for it—birth control in the drinking water. They’ve spent decades trying to demonize birth control by claiming it harms women, but who gives af about the ladies, amirite? WE HAVE TO PROTECT THE MEN. Why not dust off the Students for Life “abortion pills are poisoning the groundwater” grift and rebrand with a toxic masculinity spin? Birth control pills are peed into the water, men drink it, and suddenly every guy becomes an estrogen-soaked low-T beta male soy boy who cries at Pixar movies.

As abortion historian Mary Ziegler points out, and as we’ve been screaming from the rooftops for ages (our neighbors are really sick of our lawn signs), the anti-abortion movement once claimed they would never go after birth control. But now with a dude whose kink is medical conspiracy theories running the HHS? It’s just the opening they’ve been waiting for. God forbid the men catch The Gay—its a national emergency!
