A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan
It’s been another busy week for the city, with Full Council taking place on Monday. If you weren’t able to join us live, you can watch the meeting back on YouTube to catch up on the discussions and decisions that matter to Nottingham residents.
We’ve also had some great news to share across the city. Our new Transforming Cities-funded walking and cycling bridge has now been successfully lifted into place, with the first crossing over the river in 65 years. An exciting milestone that will unlock new active travel routes when it opens next year.
Old Market Square is looking magical once again as Winter Wonderland returns, bringing festive cheer, ice skating and plenty for families to enjoy.
And finally, our much-loved Council House clock has been restored to its former glory, with Little John back ringing proudly over the city after its first major refurbishment in nearly 50 years.
Read on for all the latest updates and stories from across Nottingham.

The 87 metre, 175 tonne bridge was lifted into place by a huge crawler crane
Now, Nottingham’s skyline has a new landmark, however there is still more work to do to install, ramps, steps and walkways and a smaller bridge over Trent Basin as well as to add landscaping and planting around the area. The bridge is set to open in late Spring 2026.
Once completed, the new walking and cycling bridge will form an important part of Nottingham’s active travel network – enabling new connections and routes that will be especially useful for sports fans and those wanting to take advantage of amenities on both sides of the river.
You can watch a time lapse of the bridge being lifted into place here.
Step into Christmas as Winter Wonderland is now open at Old Market Square! Glide above the square on the Sky Skate Ice Path, take in panoramic views of the city on the Observation Wheel, and enjoy seasonal cheer with delicious food and drink in the alpine ski bars. The Christmas Market stalls will also be back, offering a huge selection of gifts and festive treats, as well as the popular Ice Bar with a brand-new theme.
Nottingham’s iconic Council House clock has been restored for the first time in nearly half a century, bringing the much-loved timepiece back to its best for generations to come.
The clock, which sits behind Little John (one of the country’s deepest-toned bells) has undergone a complete refurbishment, involving the careful dismantling, inspection, repair and reassembly of 1,195 individual parts.
The complex restoration, carried out by clock specialists under the direction of Nottingham City Council’s Property team, involved months of detailed engineering and craftsmanship.
