MCSO Town Hall Community Meeting
Town Hall
On Oct 2nd, I had the opportunity to speak with concerned citizens at the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office town hall meeting in Waddell. Thank you to the Sheriff and his deputies for protecting our community.

MCSO Court Ordered Monitor Community Meeting
Melendres
I attended the quarterly court-ordered community meeting where community members were supposed to be given the opportunity to speak about how they either opposed or supported the continuation of the Federal oversight of the Sheriff's office that has now gone on for over a decade and has cost taxpayers $353 Million. If I was allowed to speak, I would have asked the Judge why he is still ordering this federal monitoring to continue even though the Federal Monitor himself has concluded that the Sheriff's office does not racially profile, which was the original lawsuit complaint. Enough is enough. It is time for this costly federal bureaucratic nightmare to end.

On October 9, I attended the Grand Opening of Heritage Senior Apartments in Surprise. This complex will provide 99 brand-new, one-bedroom units that are income-based, which ensures seniors will have stable housing and still be able to afford other necessities outside of rent.

It was a privilege to spend the day connecting with both students and community leaders. At Grand Canyon University, I had the opportunity to speak with an inspiring group of young people, sharing my personal story and encouraging them to pursue their goals with determination and to make the most of every opportunity.
Later, I joined the Greater Phoenix Chamber to provide an update on BNSF and the Sheriff's Office Court Order. I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage with the next generation of leaders and the dedicated professionals who drive progress in our community every day.

BNSF Railway Project Vote
BNSF Speech [ [link removed] ]
On Wednesday, November 5, I voted to deny the BNSF Comprehensive Plan Amendment.
I am grateful to the thousands of constituents who have engaged in this process. Your input was vital to my decision. The fundamental reality is that the infrastructure and service framework necessary to support this level of development is not in place.
Our County’s planning framework places a high priority on regional consistency and collaboration. Advancing a large-scale employment land use designation in unincorporated Maricopa County without City coordination or service agreements in place risks fragmented growth and duplicative service efforts.

Veterans Day Ceremony
Veterans Day Ceremony
I was honored to attend Maricopa County’s Veterans Ceremony, celebrating the dedicated staff members who have served our nation in uniform. It was truly inspiring to hear from our two guest speakers, MCSO Lt. Ryan Neville and Tempe Detective Robert Lopez. who both shared stories from their time in military service and their continued commitment to serving our community through law enforcement.
To all our veterans- thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to protecting our freedoms. We are deeply grateful for your service.

Litchfield Park Library Groundbreaking Ceremony
litchfield park
I was proud to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for our new Litchfield library, which will open in Fall 2026 near the historic La Loma Hilltop. This brand-new, 10,000-square-foot facility will mark an exciting new chapter in Litchfield Park’s story. Maricopa County allocated $5 million, through the Community Solutions Funding, making this vision a reality.
I am deeply proud to support our libraries and the tremendous value they bring to every community they serve.

2025 Tom Manos Award
Tom Manos
Congratulations to the 2025 Tom Manos Award winner, Darla Barfield from Maricopa County Correctional Health Services! Not only has Darla been an exemplary employee for 25 years but she has also spent over 20 years dedicating her personal time to giving back to her community by visiting nursing homes- visiting with elderly who do no have family close by and also spends countless hours on the streets of Phoenix distributing donated items to the homeless population. Congratulations to the other nominees who also deserve recognition for all that they do at work and for their community.
