The good news is that the government is finally reopening. After the longest shutdown in our nation’s history, federal employees, service members, and families who were living in uncertainty can finally breathe a little easier.
But here’s the truth: ending the shutdown doesn’t mean the work is done. The deal that passed still fails to address the healthcare crisis that’s hitting families hard here in San Diego and across the country.
I voted no on this spending bill because it does nothing to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing. If we don’t act now, 28,000 people in our district alone could face higher costs next year. Families can’t wait any longer for relief.
Add your name if you agree Congress must act immediately to keep healthcare affordable and stop premiums from soaring out of reach.
I’m glad that air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and other federal employees will finally be compensated, and that food assistance programs can restart. But the same dysfunction that caused this shutdown is also keeping us from solving problems like the rising cost of healthcare.
That has to change. The American people deserve a Congress that works for them – one that can keep the government open and lower costs for working families.
If you agree that healthcare must be part of the next budget deal, add your name to stand with me in calling for real action and accountability.
Thank you for continuing to stand up for progress and common sense.
