Civil rights should apply to everyone.

John,
Last month we celebrated Pride and the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. A particularly celebratory moment this year was SCOTUS ruling on Bostock v. Clayton County —SCOTUS ruled that companies do not have the right to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace.
This was a landmark moment, but there’s still more work to do. [[link removed]]
LGBTQ+ people now have legal protection from discrimination at work , but it is still legal to discriminate against them at stores, restaurants, hotels, and federally funded programs—including adoption agencies and transportation services.
More recently, in another horrendous attack on LGBTQ+ rights, the Trump administration rolled back protections for LGBTQ+ people in the Affordable Care Act that made it illegal for doctors, hospitals, and others to deny care to a person if they disapproved of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
That's why we need your help. We have to beat this awful game of whack-a-mole against bad rules, court positions, and legislation, so it’s past time for comprehensive protections.
Join us in demanding Congress pass the Equality Act! [[link removed]]
TAKE ACTION [[link removed]]
This bill applies legal equality to literally all areas of civil rights.
It would:
*
Amend
our
nation’s
civil
rights
laws.
*
Provide
LGBTQ+
people
and
their
families
clear,
consistent
protections
nationwide—including
in
employment,
housing,
credit,
education,
public
spaces,
and
services;
federally
funded
programs;
and
jury
service.
When it comes to opportunities for earning a living, having a place to live, or being served in a public space, they should be treated with the same human decency as anyone else. [[link removed]]
It’s important to also note that the Equality Act is a critical step in the fight for civil rights and is core to ending anti-Blackness in this country.
Black LGBTQ+ people and LGBTQ+ people of color are disproportionately impacted by LGBTQ+ discrimination of all kinds. Black Americans who identify as LGBTQ+ continue to be economically disadvantaged because of persistent discrimination; housing insecurity; a lack of quality, affordable healthcare; and fewer educational opportunities.
Black transgender women face the highest levels of fatal violence within the LGBTQ+ community.
If passed, the Equality Act would provide much-needed comprehensive non-discrimination protections to help these communities thrive.
We need the Equality Act NOW in our fight to achieve true equality. [[link removed]]
SCOTUS has spoken, now we need Congress to act.
Tell your legislators to support the Equality Act today.
In solidarity,Edwith Theogene
