Last night, I cast my vote NO on one of the most shameful “clean CRs” ever brought to the House floor.

Hi friend,

Last night, I cast my vote NO on one of the most shameful “clean CRs” ever brought to the House floor.

This bill may reopen the government, but it does nothing to protect millions of Americans from higher healthcare costs, deeper cuts to the safety net, and the daily uncertainty that extremists in Congress have forced on working families. In plain terms, it tells the American people that our is acceptable collateral damage.

The shutdown may be over, but its impact will echo across this country for a long time to come.

It will be felt by the families whose premiums are set to rise while Republicans try, yet again, to undermine the Affordable Care Act. It will be felt by the millions of Americans on SNAP who are still struggling to afford groceries after weeks of fear about their benefits. And it will be felt by countless others whose hardship will surface in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

I am especially mindful of the federal workers, air traffic controllers, members of our armed services, and every public servant who went weeks without a paycheck and still showed up to serve. While Republicans played politics and pointed fingers, these workers did their duty.

They have my deepest gratitude — and they deserve a Congress that honors their sacrifice, not one that uses them as pawns.

My vote against this CR was the only honest choice for the people of Brooklyn. They know empty promises won’t restore the healthcare protections and economic security they rely on.

They know this fight does not end with one vote or one shutdown.

And so do I.

If you’re able, I’m asking you to stand with me today.

Chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can so we can keep holding Republicans accountable, defending our safety net, and fighting for a future that matches the dignity of the people we serve. November is a hard month for fundraising because of the holidays, so I’m asking you to step up early so we can continue to hit our monthly goals.

Brooklyn will never give up on that future. And neither will I.

In solidarity,

Yvette D. Clarke
