John,
Red Cup Day is here. Starbucks Workers United is on strike!
It’s time to put down that latte and show them our support!
Starbucks’ claim to “ethical sourcing” does not track with its treatment of its own workers. Their ads tell a story of smiling coffee farmers in lush green fields, beaming baristas, and a company that “cares.” They want us to believe that every cup represents fairness, respect, and shared prosperity -- from the South American growers to the customers at home.
But one look at how Starbucks treats its own workers tells a very different story. Since the first stores voted to unionize in December 2021, Starbucks has refused every serious attempt at bargaining. For nearly four years, the company that claims to “ethically source” its coffee has been unethically stonewalling the 12,000 employees who make its profits possible.
Now, with the holidays approaching, Starbucks baristas are fighting back. On November 13 -- Red Cup Day -- Starbucks Workers United is striking nationwide, demanding real negotiations and respect on the job.
Send a message to Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol: Sit down with the union. Negotiate in good faith. Stop stonewalling your workers now!
While Starbucks fills its ads with images of hardworking coffee farmers, it’s silencing the very people who brew and serve that coffee every day. CEO Brian Niccol took home $96 million in his first year -- while workers face short staffing, unpredictable schedules, low pay, and soaring health care costs.
Instead of meeting with the union, Starbucks has shuttered 400 stores -- including 59 that voted to unionize -- in a deliberate campaign of retaliation.
A company that won’t even meet with its workers can’t call itself ethical. Starbucks’ PR may be global, but its hypocrisy hits home in every store where baristas are denied a voice.
Here’s how you can stand with them:
-
Delete the Starbucks app from your phone.
-
Don’t buy from Starbucks for the duration of the strike.
-
Send a message to CEO Brian Niccol: Sit down with the union. Negotiate in good faith. Stop stonewalling your workers now!
Starbucks built its brand on a lie. It’s time to prove that ethics mean something more than a marketing campaign.
The time for bad faith is over. Send a message to CEO Brian Niccol to tell him to stop stalling and start negotiating.
Thank you for supporting Starbucks’ workers!
