![]() John, I wanted you to be the first to know: I just signed Pennsylvania’s brand new budget deal into law. This historic budget will deliver meaningful investments in education, economic development, public safety, and so much more — so every Pennsylvanian has the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed. Listen, getting this budget passed into law wasn’t always easy. But real, effective legislation rarely is. It took a lot of hard work, long nights, and yes, compromise. The good people of Pennsylvania called on us to roll up our sleeves and find common ground — so we did. John, I can’t wait to tell you about the far-reaching investments this budget makes — but our work isn’t over. We still have so many challenges ahead of us, and I’m going to need your help to make sure Pennsylvania remains as a beacon of freedom, progress, and hard work all across the country.
When I talk to Pennsylvanians, folks basically want the same four things: They want good schools for their kids and grandkids. Safe communities. Economic opportunity. And the freedom to live their life, without the government standing in their way. John, I’m proud to say this bipartisan budget delivers on those priorities. For the third year in a row, we’re driving out a record amount of funding to Pennsylvania’s public schools — over $11 billion in total. That includes an extra $565 million sent out to the schools that need it most, to help close Pennsylvania’s adequacy gap and ensure every student, no matter what zip code they live in, has access to a high-quality public education. I also know so many folks across Pennsylvania are struggling under the cost-of-living crisis — so we’re taking action. My new budget puts money back in the pockets of nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians. That’s extra money in folks’ pockets for groceries, child care, mortgage, rent, and everything else needed to thrive here in Pennsylvania. We’ve also secured $25 million for child care worker recruitment and retention, $11 million in additional funding to feed hungry Pennsylvanians, and secured an additional $10 million for student teacher stipends. John, these common-sense investments will help create jobs, bring down costs, expand opportunity, and ensure every child receives the public education they deserve. In other words, our brand new budget invests in the present — and the future — of Pennsylvania.
