Friend, are you one of the 100,000 Coloradans currently spending half their income on housing? Whether you rent or you’re struggling to purchase due to our shortfall in reasonably-priced homes, it’s clear that our state is in dire need of more affordable housing.
There’s no one solution for making homes more affordable. That’s why our plan is multifaceted, covering everything from renting to buying to regulatory processes. These are just three of our key points: 🏡 Protecting renters. As your attorney general, I’ve gone after corporate landlords that illegally colluded, used false advertising, and charged "junk" fees to keep rents high and take advantage of tenants. As governor, I’ll continue to fight for renters. In fact, one of our goals is to materially decrease costs for 100,000 renters by 2035. 🏡 Assisting first-time home buyers. Building new housing is important, and we can’t stop there. We need to do more. My administration will work to increase the attainable owner-occupied housing supply by 40,000 units. We’ll expand existing down payment assistance for first-time home buyers. And we’ll push to create new financing tools — especially for people in jobs like teachers, nurses, first responders, and childcare workers. 🏡 Accelerating permits and cutting red tape. We can do better than construction delays and higher costs for home buyers. I’ll partner with local governments to get housing development approval times up to best-in-country speeds. And I’ll push to reform all our state housing processes into one streamlined, user-friendly structure that anyone can navigate.
