Hi Friend,
I'm just back from GGWash's first-ever off-site retreat with my fellow staffers in St. Michael's, Maryland. We had the chance for many hours of learning, planning, and team-building beyond what we could ever accomplish in a weekly staff meeting -- all within the inspiring walls of the (brand new) St. Michael's Community Center, which provides so many critical services to the community.
And we made time for fun: We took a historical walking tour of the town which included snapshots such as: - a house that still contains a cannon ball that struck it in the War of 1812,
- an early 18th-century mixed-use planned community,
- and the historical stomping grounds of one Frederick Douglass.
We also got to go on a boat tour, with a fantastic sunset (see above image) and moonrise.
Above all, we came together to take the long view of our "college-aged" organization. It was refreshing, reinvigorating, and exactly what we needed to press ahead with the work.
Coming up: we have a Planners of Color Happy Hour TONIGHT in a couple hours. And our Readers and Writers Happy Hour will be on Wednesday, December 3. If you wrote for us in 2025, we'll buy your first drink!
