Dear Friend,

Yesterday, I voted no on the government spending bill to end the shutdown. Here is why:

Earlier this year, Republican policies cut Medicaid by over a trillion dollars and cut food assistance for families in need by $186 billion. This bill repeats the pattern, making it harder for folks to afford everyday life.

House Democrats took up the fight to protect affordable healthcare. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured folks in the country, and Affordable Care Act tax credits have helped 3 million Texans afford healthcare. Without extending these tax credits in the bill, this now means the difference between life and death for far too many.

“This was a worthy fight”

I joined The Jim Acosta Show to discuss what was at stake during the shutdown and why so many Texans supported the fight to protect affordable healthcare. I will continue to fight for the healthcare that Texans and people across the country need and deserve.

At a time when hardworking folks are already struggling with the high cost of living, these increases are simply unaffordable.

I want to hear from you: Do you want Congress to take action to lower the cost of living?
