Hi team, After more than 40 days of fighting, the government is temporarily back open until January.
But it came at a massive cost: House Republicans have accelerated a severe healthcare crisis. Nearly two million Californians are insured through Covered California, and their monthly premiums in 2026 are going to double because of this.1
Protecting healthcare affordability is protecting human life, and it's a central issue in our fight for climate justice.
Here's just one example: Air pollution from fossil fuels costs every American an average of $2,500 every year in healthcare expenses.2 Heart issues, cancers, asthma, and even premature deaths have all been tied to the excess pollution that drives the climate crisis.
The fight for healthy communities isn't over, and this temporary reopening expires on January 30—right after the holiday season. Friend, will you send your representative a message to continue making healthcare affordability for all a priority?

I'll be honest, team. This is not an easy time to be an American, and we're frustrated too. It's exhausting to fight, and fight, and fight—and then watch some of our leaders in Congress give up.
But despite everything, the EnviroVoters team and I are fighting harder than ever. Why? Because we know the physical, financial, and environmental cost of giving up—and we can't just sit back and let it happen.
The path to democracy, justice, and equity for all has never been an easy one. For every victory like Prop 50, there will also be hard losses. But by working together, we can hold those who voted to cut healthcare accountable for their actions.3 We're fighting the long fight, and I'm confident that our victories will carry us through to the healthy, safe, and equitable future we all deserve.
So I urge you to keep showing up—because someone has to. Take some time this weekend to take care of yourself and your community by going out in nature, volunteering, starting a garden, or connecting with the people you love.
Thank you for fighting with us.
