Dear Friend,
Last night, the House voted 222-209 to approve the Senate’s continuing resolution (CR). Below is the statement I made regarding my vote and this bill:
“Republicans refuse to confront the health care crisis they created. Instead of working with Democrats in the House to protect the health care of the American people, they have jammed through a bill that will drive up costs, strip health care coverage from millions, and do nothing to rein in President Trump and Budget Director Russ Vought’s corruption.
“For nearly eight weeks, Speaker Mike Johnson kept the House out of session while President Trump focused on his top priority: a gilded ballroom paid for by his billionaire benefactors. As Americans opened letters warning that their health premiums would double or even triple, Senate Republicans were busy sneaking provisions into this funding legislation enabling million-dollar payouts for eight of their own. And as families struggled to put food on the table, President Trump fought tooth and nail in the Supreme Court to deny food stamp benefits.
“One thing has been made painfully clear: Republicans fight for billionaires and their own enrichment – not for working and middle-class Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to afford basic necessities.
“This bill is a failure. This bill fails to prevent health care costs from skyrocketing. It fails to address the crisis of affordability. It fails to honor our promise to our veterans. It fails to protect Congress’s power of the purse. And it provides a million-dollar jackpot to eight Senators.”
