Hi John, it's Adelita Grijalva and I want to thank my friends in the Congressional Progressive Caucus for standing with me these last seven weeks and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee for allowing me to share this big news:
After 50 days, the longest swearing-in delay in history is over. I've finally been sworn in — and the people of my district once again have a voice in Congress.
The delay in swearing me in was nothing more than a politically motivated move by Speaker Mike Johnson to protect his razor-thin majority.
It was an abuse of power that must be addressed to ensure this never happens again — because our democracy only works when everyone has a voice.
That includes the millions of people across this country who are survivors of violence and exploitation — including the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.
That's why, immediately after being sworn in, my first act was to sign the discharge petition to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files so we can finally deliver the transparency and justice survivors deserve.
Now it's time to deliver justice to those who've abused their power by holding Republicans accountable and kicking them out of office.
It's going to take all of us to get the job done.
