Aloha,
Last week Governor Josh Green and the Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) announced that SNAP recipients would be able to spend the additional $250 in relief funds beginning November 10, four full days earlier than anticipated.
Governor Green and DHS worked to get this vital assistance to Hawaii’s SNAP participants as quickly as possible to ensure that families with children didn’t go hungry.
“We know the shutdown placed many Hawaii families in an extremely difficult situation,” Governor Green said. "Our goal is simple — make sure that families have the support they need to put food on the table.”
The additional funding was made available by the state through the Hawaii Emergency Food Assistance Program, providing $250 per person in a SNAP-approved household to help families purchase groceries and essential food items during this challenging period.
SNAP provides assistance to more than one in eight Americans — more than 42 million — with monthly benefits varying by household size and income.
Add your name here if you support Josh’s efforts to provide emergency food assistance to Hawaii families at risk of going hungry.
Mahalo,
Team Green
