“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

It is unlikely that William Shakespeare thought anyone would be reading or performing his plays centuries after he wrote them.

But so many of his plays are about the universal, and apparently timeless, proclivity of the rich and powerful to bring ruin down upon themselves and those around them as a result of their ambition, greed, decadence, hubris, and corruption.

And so the famous line above — from the Bard’s longest play, Hamlet — could not be more relevant today, more than 400 years after it was written, as the president of the United States flails desperately to keep the so-called Epstein files secret.

We can think of only one reason why Donald Trump is so afraid of letting the American people see for ourselves which, if any, public figures may have known about, or even been involved in, the heinous crimes Jeffrey Epstein carried out over a span of decades:

Trump knows that he is all over the Epstein files.

(If Trump had ever done anything to earn even the barest benefit of the doubt, we might think he could be protecting someone else he cares about. But of course he has made it clear, over and over and over again, that the only person he truly cares about is himself.)

To every member of Congress:

The American people — along with those harmed by Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplices — are entitled to see which, if any, public figures may have known about, or even been involved in, the heinous crimes Epstein carried out over a span of decades. Do the right thing and vote without delay to demand the release of the Epstein files in full and unredacted (other than to protect victims).
