Dear friend,
Today marks the start of Trans Awareness Week, but for me, Trans awareness is
every week, every day, and every second.
<[link removed]>
In 2018, I made history by becoming Colorado’s first openly trans lawmaker,
but I didn’t get here alone. I was inspired to run for office when I saw
trailblazers Andrea Jenkins and Danica Roem win their races in 2017. Their
courage showed me what was possible — and that our visibility has the power to
change hearts, minds, and laws.
But as anti-trans attacks grow louder, one thing remains clear: we will not be
defined by their hate, but by our strength, resilience, and authenticity.
Trans Awareness Week is about more than visibility - it’s about celebrating
the joy, brilliance, and accomplishments of trans people in every community.
It’s about building a world where every person can live openly and safely as
who they are.
If you’re looking for ways to give back, get involved, or find support, here
are a few places to start:
Rocky Mountain Equality <[link removed]>
Supports communities across Colorado through programming, services, and
advocating for policies that ensure LGBTQ+ people, families, and communities
thrive.(I’m on the board of directors!)
Transformative Freedom Fund <[link removed]>
Supporting the authentic selves of transgender Coloradans by removing
financial barriers to transition-related healthcare.
Transgender Center of the Rockies
<[link removed]>
Providing holistic mental health services for members of Colorado’s
transgender and gender-expansive community.
Colorado Name Change Project <[link removed]>
Helping Coloradans understand and navigate the process of changing their name
and/or gender marker.
There are so many more orgs in Colorado that are doing incredible work. Visit
www.coloradogives.org <[link removed]> to find more and fund
their mission!
This week – and every week – I’m committed to continuing that fight: for
equality, for inclusion, and for a future where every trans person can thrive.
Thank you for standing with me, with our community, and with the values of
love and understanding that make Colorado strong.
