Recovery from Hurricane Melissa begins
UNICEF estimates that the lives of over 700,000 children across the Caribbean have been impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Access to safe water, health care, education and protection services has all been disrupted. UNICEF is working to restore water infrastructure, establish child-friendly spaces, reunite separated children and enable safe return to learning in addition to providing cash transfers to help families recover. | Scaling up aid after Gaza ceasefire
After more than two years of conflict in Gaza, 9 out of 10 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and nearly every child has been displaced. The recent ceasefire has enabled UNICEF to accelerate aid delivery. In the first week after the ceasefire took effect, UNICEF distributed over 520,000 jars of baby food, 3 million diapers and 6,000 hygiene kits. UNICEF's digital cash transfer program now reaches 100,000 people monthly, providing families flexibility to purchase essentials. See how UNICEF is helping >>

Funding cuts threaten progress in eradicating polio
Polio cases have fallen 99.9 percent since 1988, saving 1.5 million lives and generating $27 billion in health care savings — but the disease remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and recent funding cuts threaten progress. In the first nine months of 2025, 188 cases were recorded, compared to just 106 cases in all of 2015. $6.9 billion toward eradication by 2029 could yield many more billions in long-term savings. The choice is clear: finish the job now or face costly recurring outbreaks. Learn more about UNICEF's efforts to eliminate polio >>

UNICEF is helping children in Sudan as famine takes hold
In Sudan, active conflict and severely restricted humanitarian access are worsening already high levels of hunger and malnutrition. Famine was confirmed in Al Fasher and Kadguli in November. After months without access, UNICEF recently reached South Kordofan state, delivering 6,300 cartons of therapeutic food and essential medicines to treat severely malnourished children. UNICEF is supporting frontline health workers to keep services running, establish safe spaces for children, and ensure refugee children can continue learning. U.S. Support for UNICEF
In response to federal funding cuts, including funding reclaimed from UNICEF in July, UNICEF USA supporters from across the country organized meetings with Members of Congress to advocate for a $150 million contribution to UNICEF’s core resources for Fiscal Year 2026. By engaging face-to-face with legislators and their staff, advocates showcased the importance of UNICEF’s work delivering essential health, nutrition and education services that protect children and promote long-term stability. You can be an advocate too! Contact your Member of Congress today >>
