**THE FORUM DAILY**
Heightened immigration enforcement is making it more difficult for immigrants experiencing domestic violence to get help, reports Cheryl Platzman Weinstock of KFF Health News [link removed].
Advocates say that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s work with state and local police in many states interferes with immigrants’ ability to report crimes and get certified for a U visa [link removed], which allows immigrants to live and work in the U.S. as they assist in criminal investigations.
Some law enforcement leaders are expressing concern about the detention and deportation of immigrants with pending U visas, as Paul Ingram of the Tucson Sentinel [link removed] reports.
"For us in the field, U visas play a key role in fostering trust within immigrant communities since they represent an opportunity to protect victims of crime who lack legal status. When immigrants feel safe in reporting crimes, it strengthens the community's safety," Tucson Chief Chad Kasmar said in a statement [link removed] from the Law Enforcement Immigration Task Force, which he co-chairs.
Elsewhere, anecdotal evidence indicates that the intensity of anti-immigrant sentiment and enforcement in some communities is driving some immigrants to relocate within the U.S., even as others hide in place or self-deport, reports Jasmine Garsd of NPR [link removed].

**HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS** — Human Rights Watch and Cristosal say in a new report [link removed] that the deportation and imprisonment in El Salvador of 200 Venezuelans at the United States’ request amounted to "arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture," reports Camilo Montoya-Galvez of CBS News [link removed]. "The human rights violations documented in this report violate El Salvador's obligations under international law," the report reads.
**BOND** — Yesterday a federal judge said he will grant bond to hundreds of immigrant detainees arrested during Operation Midway Blitz, reports Jason Meisner of the Chicago Tribune [link removed]. The judge also ordered the immediate release of 13 people whose arrests violated a 2022 court order. "It is highly unlikely any of them are criminal gang members, drug traffickers or assorted ne’er-do-wells who fall under the category of what ICE has called ‘the worst of the worst,’" the judge said.
**CHICAGOLAND** — Residents of Chicago suburbs also are seeing neighbors and friends detained amid immigration enforcement, reports Jared Rutecki of WTTW [link removed]. Several lawsuits have been filed, including a federal suit that questions immigration enforcement agents’ use of force. A bright spot within city limits: Chicagoans are stepping up to help local street vendors, buying their products quickly and donating them to families in need, reports Christine Fernando of the Associated Press [link removed].
**RETHINKING** — The deportation of a father and husband who arrived to the U.S. as a refugee is challenging conservative Twin Falls, Idaho, reports Lok Darjee of The Guardian [link removed]. After Binod Shah settled in Twin Falls, he got a job, went to church and eventually married the daughter of a local minister. His arrest is making his family and his neighbors question what it means to be Christlike.
