Hi John,
I’m very excited to share that the bill protecting private well owners’ right to know what’s in their water (AB 635) was officially introduced in the State Assembly this week. Thanks to your messages to legislators and public support, 48 legislators – 33 democrats and 15 republicans – signed on as original co-sponsors on the bill. Having bipartisan support is crucial for getting this bill passed.

I’m constantly in awe of the power we can have when we come together to influence our elected officials. Here’s what we’ve accomplished together so far: -
We sent co-sponsorship asks to every Senate district and 85 percent of Assembly districts thanks to conservation voters like you and the help of our coalition partners.
-
This week, we sent a letter to every legislator signed by 60 stakeholders from across the state, including environmental nonprofits, Tribal governments and organizations, faith-based groups, and local organizations impacted by PFAS, lead, and nitrate.
-
Our organizers and their volunteer teams have now knocked over 400 doors, providing information on testing drinking water, distributing water testing kits, and sharing support for this legislation. Volunteer at a canvass here >
-
We helped tell the stories of people impacted by contaminated drinking water, like Larry Brenner, the Matzek family, and Tarion O’Carroll, to bring awareness to this issue. Shared entirely through unpaid outreach and organic engagement, the stories have collectively been viewed by over 20,000 people.

Let’s continue this momentum so that the health of private well owners is protected. This bill would require the DNR to notify local health departments if groundwater is contaminated, making it easier for local residents to know if their drinking water is polluted.
The next step is to get the bill to a public hearing. Take action now to show your support for this bill >>>
