Dear John,

We live in extraordinary and frightening times. The federal government arrests people without warrants, tearing apart families and communities. Due process and the very foundation of our democracy are under threat.

Yet, because of you, justice can prevail.

Support like yours empowers the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) to uphold the rights and dignity of immigrants and refugees. Thank you.

As attacks on immigrants in our communities grow even more aggressive and widespread, I’m asking you to stand on the side of justice and humanity by making a gift to NIJC today.

Please donate now to defend human rights and preserve due process: https://immigrantjustice.org/donate

For more than 40 years, NIJC has been at the forefront of defending due process and human rights through legal services, impact litigation, and policy advocacy. Together with a network of 2,600 dedicated pro bono volunteers, NIJC serves over 10,000 people each year — fighting for an immigration system that upholds human rights and justice for all.

When you give, you join a courageous community of clients, advocates, and supporters who refuse to give up in the face of cruelty.

One of those NIJC clients is Wilson, whose story embodies the power of courage.

After being jailed and beaten for his political beliefs, Wilson fled his home county of Rwanda in fear for his life. He was persecuted because he volunteered for a female presidential candidate who promoted democracy and freedom of speech. In 2018, he entered the U.S. with a visa and applied for asylum. In 2020, after being referred to immigration court where he faced deportation, NIJC connected with him and placed his case with pro bono attorneys.

When Wilson’s final hearing approached earlier this year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was abducting people as they appeared in court. His attorney told him that ICE could seize him. Undeterred, Wilson appeared, saying,

“I will show up because I believe in American justice.”

At the hearing’s conclusion, his pro bono attorney told him, “You won your case.”

Wilson’s faith in justice was rewarded that day. Because of your support, NIJC and our pro bono partner helped him secure the relief he needed to start a safe life in the United States.

Please donate now and help more people like Wilson get the justice they deserve. Give now: https://immigrantjustice.org/donate

Our community members need you now more than ever. Thank you for standing with NIJC to defend human rights, reunite families, and keep justice alive for thousands of people like Wilson.

With gratitude,

Mary Meg McCarthy
Executive Director, National Immigrant Justice Center
