Friends,
Last night, I had the privilege of speaking with Kaufman County’s veterans and honoring World War II Army veteran Guy Eastep, who celebrated his 100th birthday this year.
Mr. Eastep was drafted in 1943 and deployed to the European Theater as a rifleman. During his service, he earned the European Theater Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in March 1946 at the rank of Technician 4th Grade.
I was humbled to recognize Mr. Eastep and express my gratitude to all the veterans in our district. They represent the best of America and embody courage, honor, and selfless devotion to our nation.
Another reason for celebration: the federal government has officially reopened.
For 42 days, Democrats held the government hostage to try to extend failed healthcare subsidies. In doing so, they caused real harm to hardworking Americans. Veterans were denied critical services, seniors lost access to care, and families went without SNAP benefits.
After weeks of pressure from the American people, Democrats finally caved.
Upon arrival in Washington this afternoon, I had an opportunity to speak on the House floor in support of ending this unnecessary shutdown. Watch my remarks below.
With the shutdown behind us, I’m eager to get back to work to deliver the America First agenda and continue fighting for the values that make this country strong.
Sincerely,
