Yesterday, we paused to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. We thank them for their courage, their sacrifice, and for stepping up when our nation needed them.

Because of them, we live in freedom. We owe them not just our words of gratitude, but our daily commitment to care for them when they come home.

On Veterans Day, I can’t help but think about the man I loved and miss every day, John Dingell. Throughout his life, John held many titles — Congressman, Chairman, husband, father, friend — but the one he was most proud of was veteran.

His service in World War II shaped his character, his empathy, and his lifelong dedication to those who served beside him.

Every story I hear reminds me why this work matters. Our veterans should never have to fight for care, housing, or dignity. They’ve already done the fighting.

Today, and every day, I recommit to our shared responsibility to build a country worthy of their service.

To every veteran, every service member, and every military family: thank you. We see you. We are grateful to you. And we will keep working for you.

Be safe,
Debbie
