That means small towns and rural communities are being priced out of the equipment we need to keep people safe. It’s not only a budget problem, John, but it’s also a public safety issue.

Marie heard those concerns loud and clear. That’s why she passed a bipartisan amendment to require the Federal Trade Commission to study consolidation in the fire truck and emergency vehicle industry, and publicly report on how it’s driving up costs and slowing deliveries.

When a handful of companies control most of the market, they limit competition, raise prices, and leave taxpayers and emergency responders footing the bill. Communities like ours deserve transparency and accountability so we can plan, budget, and respond to emergencies.
