8 Senate Democrats just caved on the government shutdown — and nobody seems to know why.
We’ll get into the details in a moment. But first: if you believe voters deserve a progressive media network that isn’t afraid to hold Democrats accountable when they cave to Trump and MAGA, please chip in $25 to COURIER today. [[link removed]]

The shutdown was supposed to be about protecting health care, child nutrition, and the basic functioning of government from Trump’s efforts to destroy it. They vowed to hold the line until Republicans agreed to safeguard Affordable Care Act subsidies and renew emergency funding for hospitals and clinics.
But just as the strategy seemed to be showing success, a handful of Senators folded and voted with Republicans to end the shutdown early.
Instead of winning protections, the shut down ended with a promise of a vote on health care — a pinkie promise, nothing more.
Even worse, Senators like New Hampshire’s Jeanne Shaheen said she believed “some Republicans will vote with us” later — a statement that flies in the face of ten years of MAGA politics and everything Republicans have done to destroy health care in this country.
For too long, we’ve watched out-of-touch leaders pretend that if they just “act in good faith,” the dynamic will change — that Republicans will rediscover their conscience. But these are not normal times.
The Republican Congress isn’t a governing body. It’s a cult of personality built to protect Donald Trump and punish dissent.
When we refuse to hold them accountable for that, they don’t just lose an important policy fight — they normalize corruption and weaken the very idea of accountability itself.
That’s why COURIER exists: to hold our elected officials accountable and to stand up to the existential harm Trump and MAGA are doing to our democracy.
And our work is already cutting through. Our latest videos exposing these senators for folding on the shutdown — including one calling out Jeanne Shaheen directly — have reached millions of viewers online.
We’re not stopping there.
We’ll keep doing our part — but we can’t do it without yours.
Can you give $25 or whatever you can today to help COURIER keep holding the powerful accountable and making sure the truth reaches the people who need it most? [[link removed]]
